Brighter Day
When in a culture hard time starts
It tends to jettison its arts ~
Register them in its till:
Inspiration as a frill,
Indulgence, and unrealistic
Along with all sweet and mystic,
Soft, comforting “extra” stuff:
Nothing more nor less than fluff,
Unreas’nable expenditure
And energy extenditure ~
Bury them, forget the ghost ~
But that is when we need those arts the most!
Illustrating future scope
Of inspiration and of hope,
Reminding us all of the way
To get back to a brighter day
