I Don’t Mind ~ Do You?

I don’t mind that you’re pragmatic,
Factual, dryly didactic,
Naught but statistics express ~
Sincerely I your function bless

Preserving of the surely known,
Proven, peer reviewed alone ~
I do give you, for this, respect
But, it seems, may not expect

That same sweet consideration.
There I find a deep frustration,
There I find good cause to grieve ~
Little respect do I receive

Consideration small I earn
Nor reciprocity’s return
For the lofty inspiration
Which pays for your recreation

When you’re done with what you know
Where do you for comfort go,
Relaxation and relief,
But to my ‘spurious’ belief

In higher reality
Than measured by calipers be,
Which gives birth to each symphony
You hear, each work of art you see?

Can you write four lines in rhyme
One would, reading, call sublime? ~
Can I, perhaps you’d retort,
Footnote competent report?

Th’answers to both questions be
Presented identic’ly:
Though of success we each might tell
We haven’t done it very well!

Though they might appear as chancy
Please tolerate my flights of fancy ~
It might from time to time behoove
You to admit we may not prove

Elements like trance or wrath
By dint of doing careful math.
Just because there is no proof
Is no excuse for you to spoof

Any possibility
That truth indeed in it may be
If that admission you excise
It is yourself you must despise

For though you might well have meant
You left out an element
From the grand cosmic equation
Which compasses fine art’s creation

I don’t mind that you exist
Without benefit of bliss
And you would more balanced be
Not minding the bliss in me
