Facing Down the Demons
The ones who say I’m going to lose
The ones who say I’ll never win
The ones who say if I can choose
I ought not even to begin
The ones who tell me that a rise
I would come swiftly to regret
Here they are — it’s no surprise —
Discouraging as they can get
Whispering that altitude
Is but precursor to a fall:
Let them own my attitude
And I will get nowhere at all
