Contests, competitions, debates and rankings have ever paled, for this poet, in the radiant face of mutually unfettered organic celebratory appreciation.

Forward to the Past
Oh, many an’ many’s the tale that’s told
Of human history
A thousand wiley ways unfold
We hominids may see
Oh, variations all untold
Born of necessity
Which, secure in the modern fold
All unacquainted with are we!
Of all the strange manifestations
Of historic clans and nations
None more intriguing there be
Than ancient Celtic history
A day in which the poet
Whom we among ourselves despise
Quite otherwise than we now know it
Deemed to be so very wise
They chose one and all to show it
In very obvious wise:
Seating that one, they would stow it
Right next to the Royal Guize
From where weilded such influence
Put would-be enemies askance
Giving reason, ay, perchance,
To join in more harmon’ious dance!
Wore one less color in its sleeve
Than leaders of society
In which bright color days relieved
Of their sobriety
Intensely glad by eyes received
In great variety
Gave those in whom they deep believed
Of tones a wider moiety
The poet was so colorful
Of gladness made the eyes so full
So many to that witness bring
Near radiant as any King!
Of all the poets in that lit’rate land
Among them, how was it the people choose
Which represent them at the sov’reign hand?
Was’t one whom they had voted best amuse
In ways according with varied demand?
Did one a contestant “win” and others “lose”
As would require we in our modern land,
As glad as give a grin one to refuse?
The short answer to that question is “No”
And lest you sense that you dubious grow
I’ll share what I have come gladly to know
As through lifetime’s extensive research go:
They say, they say that in that time
Decision was in silence made
Upon which purveyor of rhyme
Ultimate honor would be paid
No need felt to drag the sublime
Through mundane “ranks” which but degrade
For all perceived the one should climb
To pinnacle of accolade
How, ask you, did they mut’ual so
Swiftly a consensus know?
How did they, all at once, decide
The person of their greatest pride?
It was the one successful were
Projecting the reality
The which his rhyming words infer
Into the minds, psychically,
Of they whom to those words refer
Their list’ning, interestedly
Upon whom they’d, as one, confer
Whom their representative be
How clear the day, how clear the heart
On this civilization’s part
From history it points the way
To a brighter future day
