A Little Thought
Those dreams that you’ve had all your life,
Sure that, if they just come true,
Disappointment, woe and strife
Will fall away from you —
So much imagined benefit
To you thusly will accrue
That it will be a whole new world
You find yourself come to,
When realized, are guaranteed
To be different than they look
(From present far perspective
They are easily mistook
For somewhere people really do things
By the Golden Book) —
Look back from there, and think about
The sacrifice it took
To get to where you are
From back beginning, where you were,
The joys and sorrows of each moment
Endlessly deferred,
And wonder sometimes whether
Some fair circumstance which were
Your own in days gone by be that
Which now you would prefer
A truly loving smile is something
Has with merely money not
Ever in this world been one
Transact’ionally begot
The path of purchase is with further
Purchase endless fraught —
Before you start that path upon
Please give it a little thought
