Let Me Explain, Dear ~ I Am Old

Let me explain, dear
I am old
Full of discomforts
All untold
And I will them
To you unfold

My knees are weak
My feet are cold
My energy
Has all been sold
My stockings they
Have come unrolled

Nor can I roll
Them up again
Without consi-
Derable pain
Which I don’t want
To feel again

Tell your friends
They should consider
What it’s like
To be a widder
Bring one here
I will not kid ‘er!

Nothing tastes
Good to eat
Can’t even get
Across the street
Been ages since
I’ve seen my feet

That statement shouldn’t
You amuse
I have to wear those
Slip-on shoes
Those shoes only old
Ladies use

So if I seem
Matter of fact
About how you
Ought not to act
You should still
Gratefully react

Eh, my logic’s
Somewhat flabby
And my run-on
Somewhat gabby
My mood maybe
Somewhat crabby

By obfuscation
Unconfused
By song and dancing
Unamused
By glib distractions
Undefused

Since the hoary
Days of old
Through dim ages
All untold
We tolerate
Th’ obnoxious old

In other words:
Put up with me
Whom it’s clear
We all agree
Approaches old age
Feistily

Poised upon
Departure’s edge
This I affirm and
Solemn pledge:
Obnoxiousness
Is my priviledge!
