No Longer See

Sweetie, you’re concerned
That you might not be keeping pace
With all those ads and sitcoms —
All your consciousness is in your face

You worry that your lipstick
Might not be the latest shade
To go with other features
So painstaking up you’ve made

And truly when it’s still
That face would be a work of art
Did it not such societal
Anxiety impart

Though others might be fooled
Your overpolished bright smile by
All I can see is desperate
Abandonment of self to try

To be all that they’re telling you
A modern woman ought to be
Until your own true pref’rences
You can no longer even see
