A Better Show

Didn’t need a high res
Liquid crystal TV set
Or the latest video
Super duper game to get

Didn’t need a Broadway play
This or any other day
Didn’t need a dancing troupe
Or a sweetly singing group

Didn’t need a console
Not yet a remote control
In fact, there little need be
To plug in electricity

Though I had entertainment fine
As any ever has been mine
Moved my mind
To thoughts sublime

Lifted up this hopeful heart
To wish to do its tender part
Mended, patched and made more whole
This tending to weary soul

I surely know
A better show
I couldn’t get
Than this evening’s lovely sunset
