A Visit From a Friend
A visit from a friend, and all seems well
Which but a moment therebefore seemed ill —
Someone to whom ones joys and troubles tell,
Who doth ones empty heart with laughter fill
And sympathy, and unconditional
Acceptance of what makes our happiness,
Suggesting not we aught of it annul
But only wishing more our lives to bless…
When every plan escapes from good control
And seems to scatter all ways out of hand,
In some myster’ious way we’re made more whole
By presence of one who but understand
And still consent to keep us company
When we glow less than scintillatingly!
