In a Sacred Manner I Come
Take the first steps on
Your chosen pathway midst the throng
Set your will upon
Your worthy goal that mill among
Plenty there will be
Attempting to stand in your way
Plenty will agree
No value lies in what you say
Then there will be those
Who, spinning only aimlessly,
Are just oblivious
To your bright possibility
You will critics see
Looking for ways to criticize
Whatever your purpose be:
That’s how they paychecks realize!
Unto all of these
Send out the old Lakota call
From one a vision sees
To perhaps obstructive all:
“Hanta yo!” they cry,
“Wakanya hebu yelo!” —
Those it was heard by
From off that path hastened to go
“Clear the way! Clear the way!”
That’s what those words were meant to say ~
“Get out — get out — get out of my way:
In a sacred manner I come!”
