Truth Told
Well, now I’ve told the truth — it was
The truth of love, beside
Behind no scatological
References did I hide
Nor any individual
Characteristic bring to mock;
Of only real infringement
To civility I’d talk
Nor made fun of anything
Odd, nor yet unusual
Of which every true character,
We may depend on it, is full ~
Perhaps I so the angels please
As I had asked on mental knees,
Perhaps I drew definitive
Requisite boundaries
Perhaps I have prevented
More pain than did create,
Perhaps a headlong rush toward
Increasing trouble thus abate
Perhaps, perhaps I have been all
That the best of friends should be
Cognizant, concerned, courageous
Nor unkind in honesty
Perhaps, in past, I have
Spoken only positively
So that in this here now
There a constructive balance be
Perhaps create awareness
Perhaps some credit get
For meticulous caring —
There’s no way of knowing yet
Whether so I hatred have
Or true affection have inspired
It required all my energy
Now, I am only tired
