Desirability of Peace

In your chequered past, my friend
Have you done something bad? ~
You’ve had the same experience
Everybody’s had!

None of us is faultless
All shortcomings have
All of us been in the past
Somewhat less than brave

Somewhat less than noble
Somewhat less than kind
All of us to suffering
And opportunity been blind

To help another soul along
To reach out to our fellow man
None of us can do everything ~
Have we done what we can?

Be not too hard upon yourself
When you total up that score
No matter how much you have done
There’s always something more

Remember how you lessons learned
Remember how in strength you grew
Remember how you wisdom earned
When unfairness came to you

You understand now what it’s like
On the receiving end
Needing always to yourself
And your priorities defend

Know, now, of these practices’
Undesirability
Enough to wish an absence
Of their influence to see

You’re ready now to work toward
Completion of their cease ~
Graduated ~ understand
Desirability of peace
