Allow Yourself to Love

Allow yourself to love, in spite of all
The predators surrounding you — reach out
Though lowered self esteem hold you in thrall
Though your true motivations others doubt

Don’t let them tell you it does not exist
Disinterested love is all around
Heed not their claim that in the mud we’re fixed
Just yonder we may walk on solid ground

Through stout resistance deep’ning everywhere
Persist in the opening of your heart
Extend the flag of peace, decide to care
Be of this human family a part

Though careless of this founding truth have grown:
We stand together or we fall alone
