Today’s young women don’t remember it, but all the advice books used to tell us to cut our hair, use no makeup, wear boxy clothing and drop our voices to sound more male, if we wanted to get anywhere “climbing the ladder” in the corporate kingdom.

Powder Power
Look at some of our young women
What women they be!
Seeing them imparts some lift
To the aging heart of me
Controlling their own situations
Sure of stride and straight of gaze
I just stand here awestruck
While my jaw drops in amaze
They don’t take any nonsense ~
Pull wool over their eyes
And they will burn it off again ~
Prepare then for a big surprise
And, for me, the first prize
That this generation win:
Ability to do all that
And still be feminine
