Conundone

Whatever would you think about
If you could not obsess on war —
On awful things somebody did
To somebody else before,
And how extremely much virtuous
You those actions deep deplore,
And how it’s now your mission
To make them suffer even more?

Television reruns, they can
Only hope to go so far
Soap operas are better
With their eternal feint and spar
Only idiots in airy-fairy
Happiness pathetic are —
Whatever would you think about
If you could not obsess on war?…
