Post Polio
When connective tissues
Are as loose as they can get
You feel you’re strung together
Rather like a marionette
Your muscles they are not so strong
Your bones are full of holes
And half your nerves have had to take
The other halves’ neglected roles
No use attempt purchase
On slippery prosperity
Your hours in bed the lack of such
Securely guarantee
Nor waste energy dreaming of
Aught pecuniary gain
Which swallowed be already
By weakness, woe and pain
