Just Before the Dawn
The light is dim and murky yet
Surrounding forms fade in from grey
We have been somehow blessed to get
From that one passed, to this new day
There still is caution warranted
The ways are not yet crystal clear
A few, beside us tenanted,
Deal, even now, in pow’r and fear
Where yet the darkness doth prevail
They one another oft abhor —
But watch the sky steadily pale,
Observe the quietly op’ning door!
There is no turning back the time
There is no method for delay
Together from the dark we climb
To find a better way
And though, after the risen Sun
There lingers yet the dawning’s chill,
As this new day has well begun
All our becoming others will
