Seeking Credibility

Let it not be said I sought
Notoriety
For any purpose but to birth
To what readership there be
That of much more than my mere worth —
Redeeming poesy

That is what I’m pointing to
Assured of it be
My tendency is yet to live
In frequent reclusivity
Nor e’en desire that much
Attention will be paid to me

If I in this world happen
To be seeking credibility,
Observe that not a reason
Through my long life did I see
To push myself to forwardness
Merely egoically

It’s only now there is a purpose
To my present outward reach
Not to sparkle or to simper
Nor admiration beseech
Just that there be an opening
For what the poems have to teach
