Writ Persuasively

When a poet writes of sorrow
Reads as there were no tomorrow
Worth trouble of striving for,
Nor the day itself much more

When a poet writes of joy
She so much gladness doth employ,
Unkind readers seem to see
Disingenuous naivete

When a poet writes of rage
Words burn right up through the page
With the incandescent heat
Of she one knowingly mistreat

When a poet writes of love
Seems naught else ever she thinks of
Than silly sighs (which sickening
Heaves to jaded readers bring)

Then, when she gets more suburban,
Writes in language grimly urban
We feel that she means us sorrow
Her mere presence trouble borrow …

She’s not writing anything
You do not, every day, bring,
In form of gossip, to your friends
(To very much less lofty ends)

Then ~ not shedding clarity ~
Mostly you destructive be
When you speak maliciously,
And, again, clandestinely

So that no chance you create
For things to ameliorate
Only self-exacerbate,
Continue to deter’iorate

But a poet speaks out clear
For everyone freely to hear
If she thus makes a mistake,
Responsibility she take

And then — responsible again —
She picks up, once again, her pen
Recording how the problem solve,
Bring that conflict to resolve…

Each perspective, seemingly
The only on her path to be —
‘Tis but a false impression from
Writing too persuasively
