With the exception of the station wagon in Troubador of Verse ‘s most recent post (which, interestingly enough, both lowered its stereo volume and closed its driver door immediately upon publication of that post) ~ and, of course, periodic meaningful squeaks from the everpresent targeter’s drone ~ it’s been a very quiet day outside this poet’s van.

Shall we attempt to offer a poem this afternoon?

Underappreciated Beauty

Those of us lacking in taste
Feel that beauty is a waste

(Those whom poetry well please
Unlikely to be some of these,

So not accusing of the deed
Anyone whom this verse read ~

However, may have to defend
Its importance to a friend!)

Notice where the wealthy go:
Environments with beauty glow

And expensive beauty, too
Regimented to the view

Vegetation trimmed we see
To artificiality

Those who do not go in dirth
Of beauty must know of its worth

Sure enough, in inner city
When our planners have some pity

And green areas provide
In which folk may take some pride

And find some serenity,
Results early, clearly, be

A rise immediately
To augmented sanity

Those who feel a pretty dress
Or painting don’t the spirit bless

Of every eye fortunate see,
We’ll consign most happily

To the ugly shattered glass
And pavement of our lower class,

Those more sensitive of us —
Knowing beauty a big plus

To ordered thought, serenity,
Lofty vision — presently

Glide with hearts and spirits glad
Through what they, unappreciated, had
