Watching other people
Doing something on a screen?
How long, for you, since you’ve done that
Yourself, think, has it been?

And when it was, was it
As perfect as seems seeming this?
As unshy and unawkward,
Like all this plastic bliss?

Please, my friend, a moment
For some reevaluation take
Everything that screen anent
Without exception’s — fake

Someone has been paid to lie
Smile and cry and sigh and lie
Emulate, dissimulate, prevaricate:
To lie

It may look somewhat the same
Oh, maybe just a little bit
As what really goes by that name
— But I wouldn’t count on it
