A Poet May Very Well Be
A poet may very well forget
The date or time
For concentrating
On the pulse of an age
And the rhythms
Of the eons
A poet may walk a little in the wrong direction
On even an alphabetical street grid
But is able to guide you
Responsibly
Through unfamiliar universes
And reliably safe back again
Unimploded
A poet may not
Remember your earthly name
But knows those of your guardian angels
Very well indeed
May not always properly place the
Temporary face
You happen to wear in this life
But understands who you
Really are
Sometimes better than
You yourself have dared to know it
A poet may very well remain oblivious to
Practically everything you see
Yet see so much that you do not
That even a poet
Lacks the way to explain it all
A poet may be all those things
And still be
Exactly
As should be
Very well
