Should be Wise

My bones are sore, my muscles stiff
Really, I should wonder if
I ought to take the iffy chance
Of going out this night to dance

But up the old town street here from
The boogyingest music come
Right into the open window
Of this writer’s studio

Enticing me downstairs to go
I’ll be sorry, this I know
That I could not resist this groove
When I can hardly even move

Because, seduced by rhythmic sound,
I’d lost what little sense I’d found
Remembering I’m an adult
After all my muscles pulled

My good friends they have me told
I should remember that I’m old
I thought it all just silly lies
Because then — right? — I should be wise!
