In her thirties, this poet was given an IQ test, on which she scored a final evaluation of 181.
In her early sixties, she attempted to arrange another for purposes of comparison.
… Only to find that this test was now unavailable to her.
More than one private psychologist informed her that no IQ test can be given unless it is part of an “evaluation” to figure out what might be wrong with with her.
MENSA informed her that no tests were scheduled at any time in the foreseeable future. Their recommendation was that she moved to Oregon, and try there.
Just the facts.

A Psychologist’s Circuitous “No”
“I question whether thirty minutes
Being paid by you
To do what society says
That I am qualified to do,
Which is to give a simple
Kindergarten test to you,
Will lead to the results
You obviously want it to
“And on that basis just like all
The rest I cowardly negation make
Of every hardship you’ve gone through
Of every danger on you take
Besides, I might make some
Inadvertent mistake
And get myself involved
With someone who might be a fake
“In my profession, see, we have no interest
In anyone who might with flying colors
Pass our vaunted little test
No one ready, willing, able
To do her very best —
Just shut your mouth and get in line
Behind all the rest.”
