Good Luck, Macbeth

Within the world of theater they know
Though pour into production sweat and blood
No conscious effort guarantees a show
Won’t fizzle into the slow dying dud

Of ev’ry playwright’s nightmare, but instead
Succeed swiftly, and, sooth, exceedingly
With rave reviews to turn each actor’s head
And people come from far around to see

Thus players are a superstitious lot
Attempting earnestly to so appease
Those by whose favor fortune is begot
Amongst the theatrical deities:

Unless you wish to doom a play to death
Never pronounce the words “Good Luck, Macbeth!”
