Good Conversation

Good conversation liberates the mind
Bright universal fields to play within
Its timbre both considerate and kind
Seeking, each heart, the other’s heart to win

Good conversation warms participants
In sweet acceptance’ glow, as ’twere at flames,
Discussing by their light current events
Correct perspective gives more ancient names

Good conversation satisfies the soul
And afterward we feel it better for —
More nourished inwardly, more peaceful, whole
Than at its start we found ourselves before

The hours pass as ’twere minutes, and the smile
Resulting lingers with us for a while
