Nothing Less Than Stupid

I can tell you’ve never been
Attacked inside the place you live ~
For those who have, forever after,
More respect to door locks give

You fall asleep pleasantly dreaming
Favors of fickle Cupid,
Then wake up feeling nothing more,
And nothing less, than stupid

For there before you, bigger far —
Darker, meaner, angrier
Is somebody that you don’t know
And continue not to know prefer

But you will know him, better
Than you know your closest friend
In all his inner deviance
Before you see the end

Which by then you might wish for
With a wish yet more devout
Than even that you woke up with:
That you had simply locked him out
