In her years online, the poet has not ceased to be amazed at the downright hysterical denial often provoked by the publication of this simple, inescapable and obvious truth.

According to Google, an agnostic believes that nothing can be certainly known about God’s existence, while an atheist denies any possibility of the existence of God altogether. The former is a reasoned if, from the poet’s point of view, unfortunate opinion ~ the latter, as credulous a position as that of the most pious believer.

In other news ~ and the reader may believe this or not ~ the background sound heard toward the end of this recording is that of a wooden spoon moving along the rim of an aluminum pie pan ~ without being touched or in any other way influenced by the poet.

Atheism is a Faith

Atheism is a Faith
The most credulous one of all
Like every faith, thinks it’s immune
To be taken for a fall

The very trait it lectures
Other faiths upon
Is the one, above all others,
It, itself, relies on

No room for aught conjecture
Might be some other point of view ~
It’s fast as any priest in its
Requirements that you

Walk in the same identical
Footsteps that it walks
Talk those words, and not one other
Than it choose to talk

Agnosticism leaves some room
For sane humility
But’s hard to find a stiffer neck
Than on atheist shoulders be
