Loose Cannon

Perhaps I will be called back
To become part of family
Then life will take a newer tack
And I will teach myself to be
A person offering no lack
Of availability

My past defenses all unpack
Prepared to happily
Follow a communal track
Its sweet results to see
Where I need not fear attack
For standard kindness given be

Or, perhaps — though often black
The world around me be
As odds it high against me stack
Most uncaringly,
Though challenge this existence wrack —
Preserve my sole autonomy
