We Keep Our Poet in an Airless Box
We keep our poet in an airless box
We’re so afraid of how she talks
And how, from fact, she fact infer ~
This is the way we much prefer
She cannot lift a curtain, for
It will provoke a rising encore
Of derisive remote sound
But look ~ there’s nobody around!
Yes, we prefer to forget
That culture’s what we asked to get
To power all our programs (when
We get around to them again)
Convenient this way ~ you bet!
We still her stalker’s drugs can get
We haven’t driven her away
For that reason ~ we let her stay
Just as long as she is quiet
On her daily steady diet
Of our most corrupted crow ~
We have got it wired, you know
We only see her twice a day
We like it much better that way
We didn’t want the gifts she brings
(Hope she doesn’t try to sing!)
