Bibliophile

I read while eating dinner
Read while eating lunch
Guess you could correctly say
I like reading a whole bunch

Reading on the city bus
Reading on the train
All the way to Timbuktu
And all the way back again

No use asking spaced-out me
What the time is, bruh
All you’ll get’s a stupid smile
And just one word: “Huh?”

Go ahead and give me
Your finest come-hither look
I will be oblivious
Buried in my book

Maybe you’re so handsome you
For Brad Pitt often be mistook
I’m just too distracted
Can’t be bothered for a look

Say that there a raging fire
In the building be?
Before I move I must the end
Of the current chapter see

You don’t think it’s important,
Think my reading’s out of hand ~
You haven’t read this book, you see
So you don’t understand!

I can’t just up and run away
Abandoning poor she,
The heroine who saved the day
About to very happy be

She ~ self sacrificing, sweet ~
The orphan lad upon the street
Without a single bite to eat,
The two are just about to meet

In a scene so satisfying
Beautiful, superb, sublime —
Whatever you need talk about
Just save it for another time!

Reading while my hairdresser’s
Curling up my head
Read texts in the morning
Mail before I go to bed

Read while I am waiting to
Any late appointment keep —
Pretty soon I’m going to be
Reading in my sleep!
