The Harder School

Why is it that I see you,
Though you do your best,
Sinking fast beneath this
Spiritual test?

Though deprivations
They are great,
Your suffering
Cannot debate,

They certainly
Are nothing more
Than you’ve put me through
Herebefore

Though to the aged
Both belong
I didn’t start out
Half as strong

Nor able to
Keep up your pace,
Nor able recognize
A face,

Challenged in
So many ways
It presently
Me much amaze

That day by day
By day by day
You’re fading
So fast away

While I’m not only
Here alive
But start a
Little bit to thrive

And when I put
The question to
My inner knowing,
I find two

Possible
Explanations
For these apparent
Aberrations:

Firstly that
Angels delight
Assisting wrong
Transformed to right

And secondly
That classic rule:
I went to
The harder school
