Rest in Peace, Dear Heart

So, my love of a younger, wilder day —
There’s so much that your picture has to say

You’re smiling, half that couple on the wall
As though you found happiness, after all

Parting was confusing, hurtful, sad
But I may look back now, and be glad

To know when you departed grieving me
‘Twas with the partner of your life to be

I grudge you not one single moment of
That life portrayed, filled as it was with love

And bless you on whatever onward way
We follow after death — for who can say

Whether or no; nor wherefore, why, nor when
Our spirits happily may meet again?

E’en if we’re destined not that joy to know,
It’s with my love and blessing that you go

Never doubt your memory lives yet ~
We living never will your smile forget
