Gaslighting by Any Other Name
I would rather laugh at you
Than talk right to you, any day
I am so afraid
Of what you honestly might say
I’m afraid you might be tasteless
‘Nough to try to be a friend
Instead of a false ally
Wouldn’t that just be the end?
If there is an understanding
I’ll do my best it to discard
And if I do it quietly
I’ll get my favorite reward
In getting you to worry,
To anxiety and fear
So you to everyone around
Unreas’nable appear
It’s just so yesterday, this thing
In which I am delighting —
Though it’s the electric age
I’m still here gaslighting
