So Tired
So tired, I think about it for a while
Before these muscles, rank and file,
Summon the procedure for a smile
So tired, it seems, to lift my arm
Gather the shawl that keeps me warm,
Carelessly done, might do me harm
So tired, this poet, in such pain
No viability regain
Put life together back again
Matters not inwardly bless
Those who caused this deep duress
Physicality express
Defender of the loving Word
Injured, recovers afterward
Resting by her useless sword,
In case it’s up she’s called to get
Not able to recover yet
A scratched and scarred and shrapneled vet
Perhaps she never, grateful, will
Come to a place she might be still
With words her empty pages fill
Without combating dread fatigue
So intense it’s hard to speak
Spent, exhausted, faded, weak
Oh, she hopes she might be wrong
Will find herself singing her song
Among those with whom she belong
Struggles not give in to fears
Nor indulge in useless tears
Though this dream has been old for years and years…
