reaching toward one another
through

social conditioning
vague word definitions

childhood pain
adult pain

mistaken assumptions
and the actions which follow

things we heard from others
things we saw on the news

things we thought we observed
things we did but don’t remember

distractions of the moment
anxieties about the future

resentments real and
imagined

irritating habits
on both sides

it’s a wonder
we reach at all

yet
we do

isn’t it
wonderful?

Until removal of the stalker/targeter/vandal/arsonist following her allows her to approach any landlord ~ even for a private parking space ~ and to begin once again to create professional connections and to rebuild her life, this poet presently lives homeless and at a fraction of her nation’s poverty level ~ still working to contribute to her society, however, seven days a week.
