Let’s Do it Together
You can’t do everything
Neither can I
It’s just futility
Even to try
As easy for travelers
To fix a shoe
As for you to be me
Or I to be you
Useless to ask me
What tonic to take
To knit up an injury,
Fix a headache,
But you would be asking
Just as uselessly
Of healers what might
A pentameter be ~
What its best uses
In contrast with those
More casual, or then perhaps
Even prose?
You do what you’re best at
And so will I,
To get this world
Running aright we will try
But we’ll never do it
Pretending elect
Status for one of us,
T’other subject —
It’s time that we all agreed
That we agree
There are no exceptions
To equality
The one who can’t lift
The heavier load
May be the one who
Sees far down the road
You be as good to me
As I to you
And each other’s gifts
We’ll appreciative view
Giving the homemaker
As much respect
As our engineers
And physicians expect
For how lacking in comfort
Presently roam
Those who cannot expect
To return to a home
Orderly, welcoming
Fragrant and bright
Full of good order
Warmness and light!
Have we forgotten
How it was when
Our children had us
To come home to again,
Kiss well the injuries
Sufferred in play,
Leisurely talk of
Events in their day,
Learning naturally
By slow degree
What right and what wrong
‘Mongst each other there be?
No honor more high
Should we pay to another
Than one deeply called
A father or mother
The laborer gives us
A place to sit down
Some otherwhere than
In the dust on the ground
And they whom affection
And trouble took
To make our food good
Both to taste and to look ~
These presently so oft
Feel such loss of worth
Among us here now,
Such a shameful low dirth
Of even regard, forget
Appreciation
That it’s a black shame
On our glorious nation
You do what you’re best at ~
We can agree
What you do’s as precious
And as necessary
To everyone here,
It’s true and it’s true,
As anything I
Might hope ever to do
If we’re to get through
All this wind and this weather,
We’d better get friendly
And do it together

Homeless until removal of the stalker/targeter/vandal/arsonist following her allows her to approach any landlord ~ even for a private parking space ~ this poet presently lives under perpetual threat of towing with all possessions should her 23-year-old van stop running for any reason.
She is badly in need of a modest reserve with which to field any emergency which might occur.
Donors may visit http://www.UgiftABLE.com , using code #72D-31S. It does take several days for the poet to be notified of your patronage.
Thank you for supporting quality in the fine arts.
