da vinci’s duds

even in the
— ah, earthier —
courts of his day

leonardo da vinci
had something
of a reputation

his mind
wandering
in fevered wonder

through
potentialities
of existence

(from which we are
still benefitting
in our own day),

he could not be bothered
to attend
to mundanities

such as mere
affect
and odor

the man
basely
sewed himself,

at the beginning
of each winter,
into his goatskin trousers —

and didn’t
unsew them again
till spring
