(Can the reader think of any social environment among us in which what’s said and what’s done are genuinely the same, and no one’s trying to “get away” with anything?
Neither can this poet.
In work, marriage, commerce, even recreation ~ all areas of human striving ~ we are used, as they say, to being “handed a bill of goods,” from which we must then decipher, ourselves, what is meant to be heeded and what’s just there for show.
It’s gotten to the point at which those who actually and wholeheartedly go with any stated program are seen as laughably immature by the heavily and habitually compromised “adults” by whom they are surrounded.
The poet finds this not only illogical but most indicative of, and contributive to, our currently epidemic sense of separation ~ from one another, from the planet we live on, and from ourselves.)

We Say This but Do That Here
Well,
Either do this
Or call it that.
