the dream
we fell asleep
in one another’s arms and slept
the sleep of the beloved
sweet and peaceful
pillowed in the shifting sands
a child’s small boat
on some familiar pond
whilst all about
the winds of heaven raged
damned lonely crept
from cold bed to cold shower
mothers weeping, kings unthroned
injustice done on every hand
ageless lovers thus have slept
so tightly twined
the sleeping cannot separate
and we sleep on
together
in our dream
