The Day the Power Went Out (And Came Back Again)
I sat a second story station
On a porch old Midtown in
It was the ideal location
From which to watch folks begin
Emerging from their hidey holes
In the houses round about
Discovering, near, other souls
They hadn’t thought that much about
Until, deprived the stimulus
Of their perpetual TV,
Bethought them that there might some use,
Perhaps, for conversation be
Breathed outdoor air, heard birdsong,
Exercised a little bit,
With others learned to get along —
Yes, saw the start of all of it
And then ~ in haste! ~ workmen arrive
And swarm utility poles up
Returning all to “broadcast live”
Giving true living up
