Silence of the Sheep

What is the problem we all have with truth?
Our businesses keep dark trade secrets close
Our elders keep reality from youth
No one another’s daily challenge knows

By governments have people been misled
Since the concept of government began —
Is honesty a hope completely dead,
The lie ascendent over all of Man?

Why should we not share what we know with those
Whom intimately we in life surround?
Why must some awful secret we expose
Unless we think before we make a sound?

How much of evil here below’s begun
Using the words “Please don’t tell anyone!”
