The laws of your nation
Do not apply to you
Officers sent to your door
Will lie outright, it’s true

To get the inconvenience
Your existence represents
Away from folks with MONEY
Whom poverty resent

Domestic terrorism’s just
Peachy in our book
Involve you, aged and disabled,
Won’t give it a second look

You have no right to medicate
Don’t even think of trying to wash
Or hang out a damp rag to dry
Oh gee, oh heck, oh gosh

Where’d you go for the idea
You an actual person are?
We won’t smile until we see ya
Very, very far

If it requires that we
A real criminal tolerate
Teaching our friendly gangsters
A whole different level of hate

That’s okay with us, just so
He keeps you in that cage
Until your presence is removed
By him, or by advancing age

Your willing sacrifice of
Comfort and security
Daily, hourly pain
Heat, cold and boring food will be

Only the beginning 
Of what from you we will demand
Who are you, after all,
Words of wisdom to command?

Where did you think you were?
Not in one of the fifty States
In which we turn our blindest eye
To injustice and to hate

We’re not afraid of him,
Studying to blow us up ~
It’s the harmless poet
We worry about, yup!

She’s not even a dissident
Synthesizing in intent
Doesn’t preach a revolution
Just points out our evolution

But of the two, the Christ
Or Barrabas, giv’n chance again,
We’re poised to make the wrong choice
In pardoning one of those men

We do it right in public
This shameful, foolish dance
Counting on good citizens’
Well meaning ignorance

And, in the end, we might deal with
A lot more violence
But at least we got you, poet,
Satisfactory silenced
