Petty
One-upmahship?
Slipping in
The competitive, subtly
Denigrative mot
Before
Better
Beyond the other’s own?
Perhaps that passes
For anything other
Than simple bad manners
In
The
Universities:
Our
Spiritual
Wastelands,
In which a poem
Had better not
Make sense
Artwork
Had better be
Ugly
And music
Inharmonious
Or
You don’t get the grade,
You sophomoric
Sentimental, unmentallydisciplined cipher!…
Sorry but
That’s not intelligence you’re chasing
It’s societal mannerism
Much more be seen than see
You haven’t brushed
Against the netherest regions
Of the genuine territory
True intelligence
Scorns
Competition
As the primitive
Wasteful
And utterly juvenile exercise
