That What You’re Calling Intelligence?

…This
Petty
One-upmahship?

Slipping in
The competitive, subtly
Denigrative mot

Before
Better
Beyond the other’s own?

Perhaps that passes
For anything other
Than simple bad manners

In
The
Universities:

Our
Spiritual
Wastelands,

In which a poem
Had better not
Make sense

Artwork
Had better be
Ugly

And music
Inharmonious
Or

You don’t get the grade,
You sophomoric
Sentimental, unmentallydisciplined cipher!…

Sorry but

That’s not intelligence you’re chasing
It’s societal mannerism
Much more be seen than see

You haven’t brushed
Against the netherest regions
Of the genuine territory

True intelligence
Scorns
Competition

As the primitive
Wasteful
And utterly juvenile exercise

It
Truly
Is
